As a major reseller of computers to the federal government, GMRI's Services Division, now Fulcrum IT, built an integrated supply chain management system to support the Product Sales Division. Besides supporting government buyers such as NASA, it ties together our internal accounting system, sales quoting system, credit card processing, and connections to external suppliers. The Web-based system includes real-time credit card processing and integrates with a back-end order fulfillment system and Platinum accounting system.

GMRI's supply chain management system typifies next-generation e-commerce in that it integrates not only internal processes but manages transactions with suppliers and customers. The system automates real-time inventory matching and transactions with progressive suppliers such as Ingram Micro and Dell. We are in the process of adding others as they adopt XML-based systems themselves.

GMRI's system is based both on custom code and commercial off-the-shelf products. It employs technologies including Agora|Commerce, Microsoft BizTalk Server, and Microsoft's XML-centric Commerce Server 2000.
